“O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not! Behold, your house is left unto you desolate. For I say unto you, Ye shall not see me henceforth, till ye shall say, Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord.”

In the Old and New Testament, we find many prophesies which announce the “time of the end”, the “day of Judgment”, the “end of the world”. Many Christians
interpret these expressions as the end of the world: nothingness.
Baha’u’llah, the founder of the Baha’i World Faith, appeared as the great world educator, designated by God for establishing peace on earth and world unity. In His numerous writings, He explicitly confirmed that all the great religions revealed are part of a divine plan for the evolution of humanity and that the founders of these religions are the mouthpieces, or the “Manifestations” of one God. They receive their inspiration from one and only source and were sent epoch after epoch to reveal progressively to humanity
the necessary commandments for the progress of the human race: their teachings, as a consequence, are limited by the comprehension of the people of their times. Each Manifestation confirms and completes the preceding revelation. Baha’u’llah fulfills the
prophecies of Christ and of Muhammad as they fulfilled those of Moses and the earlier prophets.
What does Baha’u’llah tell us about these expressions: time of the end, day of Judgment, and end of time?
He explains that the “time of the end” should be understood as the end of a succession of time, the end of an era which began with Adam, and which must be
succeeded by the “New Era”, predicted by Jesus and Muhammad as the “Kingdom of God on earth.”
“SO LIKEWISE YE, WHEN YE SEE THESE THINGS COME TO PASS, KNOW YE THAT THE KINGDOM OF GOD IS NIGH AT HAND.”

and as He teaches us in the prayer:
“Thy Kingdom come, Thy Will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”
“BUT THOU, O DANIEL, SHUT UP THE WORDS, AND SEAL THE BOOK, EVEN TO THE TIME OF THE END: MANY SHALL RUN TO AND FRO, AND KNOWLEDGE SHALL BE INCREASED."

But Daniel tells us, until this “time of the end”, the Holy Book should remain sealed: “Keep secret these words and seal the book...” clearly signifies that no one has the right to interpret in their own way.
Now, what has happened? Humanity, disobedient to the commandments of God, has always been tempted throughout the ages to break the seals of the Book and to give an interpretation for the prophecies which God Himself has ordered to be sealed.
What were the consequences? Discord, separations, sectarianism, and schisms have occurred all throughout the centuries.
Baha’u’llah announces that NOW has come the “Time of the end”, that His Revelation creates a new era and that it “obliterates, in the Holy Book, all that which
was the cause of difference and discord...”
Baha’u’llah received from God the power to break the seals and clearly interpret, scientifically and rationally, all the mysterious “signs” announced for “the end days.”
“GOD IS MY WITNESS, O PEOPLE! I WAS ASLEEP ON MY COUCH, WHEN LO, THE BREEZE OF GOD WAFTING OVER ME ROUSED ME FROM MY SLUMBER. HIS QUICKENING SPIRIT REVIVED ME, AND MY TONGUE WAS UNLOOSED TO VOICE HIS CALL. ACCUSE ME NOT OF HAVING TRANSGRESSED AGAINST GOD. BEHOLD ME, NOT WITH YOUR EYES BUT WITH MINE. THUS
ADMONISHETH YOU HE WHO IS THE GRACIOUS, THE ALL-KNOWING. THINK YE, O PEOPLE, THAT I HOLD WITHIN MY GRASP THE CONTROL OF GOD’S ULTIMATE WILL AND PURPOSE? FAR BE IT FROM ME TO ADVANCE SUCH CLAIM. Two thousand years ago, the disciples of Jesus posed a question which preoccupies us today. They asked Him:
“AND WHAT SHALL BE THE SIGN OF THY COMING, AND OF THE
END OF THE WORLD?"

and Jesus responded to them:
"TAKE HEED THAT NO MAN DECEIVE YOU. FOR MANY SHALL
COME IN MY NAME, SAYING, I AM CHRIST; AND SHALL
DECEIVE MANY”

Ridpath’s “The History of the Wold” shows how Jesus’ warning began to be fulfilled within a few years of His own passing, when in 70 A.D. one arose, claiming
the name of Christ, and led the revolution against Rome which resulted in the great dispersion of the Jewish nation. History has known many false prophets and usurpers who pretended to be the Christ. When will it stop? Hardly anyone remembers...Jesus
cautioned His disciples that a tree is known by it’s fruit, and His discourse on the ruin of Jerusalem and on His Second Coming (see Mat. 24:1-51; Mark 13:1-37; Luke 21:5-28) describe the circumstances which highlight the time of the end and the hour of the
deliverance. Jesus also knew that the “Promised One of the end times” will not have the holy name of Christ.
Isaiah had already proclaimed that he
“SHALL BE CALLED BY A NEW NAME”

Zechariah announced the same:
“IN THAT DAY SHALL THERE BE ONE LORD, AND HIS NAME ONE.”

The name of Baha’u’llah signifies “The Glory of God”.
It constitutes a single name for the entire world, in all languages. While during the Christian era the Lord was not designated by a single name, but by as many names as there are languages.
This prophecy could also refer to the hundreds of sects which all clamor for Christ, convinced each to be the unique “true path of God” and which, yet, are
all in disagreement on the True divine teachings of Jesus, like when putting into practice His commandments, notably:
“LOVE ONE ANOTHER”
Christ, continuing His description of the end times, states:
“AND YE SHALL HEAR OF WARS AND RUMOURS OF WARS: SEE THAT YE BE NOT TROUBLED: FOR ALL THESE THINGS MUST COME TO PASS, BUT THE END IS NOT YET. FOR NATION SHALL RISE AGAINST NATION, AND KINGDOM AGAINST KINGDOM: AND THERE SHALL BE FAMINES, AND PESTILLENCES, AND EARTHQUAKES, IN DIVERS PLACES.”

Two world wars, the most cataclysmic and murderous in history; famines like the one in China which, over many years, cost the lives of millions of Chinese; other disasters also provoked the death of millions of people in India, in Spain, in Greece and other regions. The earthquakes at Lisbon, San Francisco, Chili, Argentina, in Japan and even in Europe which destroyed entire families. The Tsunami of the Indian Ocean in 2005 surpassed them all in devastation and death. The plague, cholera, which was fought in Egypt, Asia, and elsewhere, not to mention the influenza epidemics after the war which affected not just a continent, but the entire world, despite all the measures taken by the governments to stop the spread of the plague.
“THEN SHALL THEY DELIVER YOU UP TO BE AFFLICTED, AND SHALL KILL YOU: AND YE SHALL BE HATED OF ALL NATIONS FOR MY NAME’S SAKE.”

Jesus did not ignore that “in the end times” the Christian church would be firmly established. He also knew that the Christians would not be alone in being persecuted, hated and killed because of His name. And He thought particularly of those who, like the first Christians, would be faced with martyrdom because they will proclaim, at the end times, the return of the Word of God, the coming of Baha’u’llah, “The Glory of God.”
The Baha’is were convinced that this prophecy of Christ was fulfilled during the last century when more than 20,000 men, women, and children perished among the first to recognize Baha’u’llah, the Word of God, and his forerunner, the Bab, as the two Great promised Manifestations of God. The most cruel persecutions and tortures were reported in the works of historians worthy of belief, such as the Count of Gobineau, and other Orientalists, who describe the horrors of the mass executions in Persia during the last century. Even in our time, in diverse parts of the world, Baha’is are still being pursued and submitted to persecutions that nothing justifies except their fidelity to the commandments of God and to the Sacred writings.

It suffices to read the daily papers or listen to the radio to note the iniquities which are multiplying and pervade everywhere today. The charity preached by Jesus has dried up. Individualism remains indifferent to the miseries of our epoch, despite the means and
the institutions which are available to humanity.

THE WORLD FOR A WITNESS UNTO ALL NATIONS; AND THEN SHALL THE END COME”

It is significant to note that when the missionaries carried the Message of Jesus to Tibet in 1841, the American Bible Society officially declared that the Gospel of Christ had reached all the nations of the world.

In the 20th century, the development of science, of all knowledge, have made vertiginous progress.
Baha’u’llah had scarcely revealed His teachings and His twelve fundamental principles for the establishment of peace and order in the world when the scientific achievements and the educational methods began transforming. For example, the first law for obligatory education was voted in 1870 in the United States and in Great Britain - seven years after Baha’u’llah recommended it. France and other European countries soon followed this example and, after the revolution, a similar law was promulgated in Russia. Actually there existed important movements in favor of obligatory, universal, education in all the republics of South America and also in China. It is true that there still exists much illiteracy in certain parts of the world, it is however remarkable to notice the
effort by the world institutions like Unesco to proceed to increase “knowledge” everywhere and produce study guides, learning methods, and universal encyclopedias. In addition, Baha’is are scattering the teachings of Baha’u’llah all over the world which
constitute the spirit and divine education for our epoch.
“I WILL SET MY THRONE IN ELAM.”
-Jeremiah 49:38
“Throne” here is a symbol of the Word of God. This verse signifies that the “Word of God” or, the “Manifestation of God”, or again, “Mouthpiece” will
appear in Elam. Elam is a part of ancient Persia, or, Iran. The Bab, (the Forerunner of Baha’u’llah and independent prophet) was born in Shiraz, in the part of Iran formerly known as “Elam”. And it is at Shiraz itself where He made His proclamation on May 23, 1844, to announce the beginning of the new Era and the imminent arrival of “The Glory of God” in the person of Baha’u’llah.
The province of Elam is also cited as the site of the vision of the last day by Daniel. (See Daniel 8:2)
“IN THAT DAY ALSO HE SHALL COME EVEN TO THEE FROM
ASSYRIA, AND FROM THE FORTIFIED CITIES, AND FROM THE FORTRESS EVEN TO THE RIVER, AND FROM SEA TO SEA, AND FROM MOUNTAIN TO MOUNTAIN.”

Baha’u’llah was born in Tehran, the capital of Iran which, in ancient times, was part of the ancient Assyrian Empire.
Against His will and without doing anything, He was sent as a prisoner of the Muslim church state, the Ottoman Empire, from the “fortified city” of Constantinople to Adrianople and finally Akka, from the Black Sea to the Mediterranean Sea; and from the
Sulayman Mountains to Mount Carmel, fulfilling this ancient prophecy while being subjected to persecutions. The site where Baha’u’llah was incarcerated became the site of pilgrimage, visited daily by pilgrims from around the world.
“THE WILDERNESS AND THE SOLITARY PLACE SHALL BE GLAD FOR THEM; AND THE DESERT SHALL REJOICE, AND BLOSSOM AS THE ROSE.
IT SHALL BLOSSOM ABUNDANTLY, AND REJOICE EVEN WITH JOY AND SINGING: THE GLORY OF LEBANON SHALL BE GIVEN UNTO IT, THE EXCELLENCY OF CARMEL AND SHARON, THEY SHALL SEE THE GLORY OF THE LORD, AND THE EXCELLENCY OF OUR GOD.”

Baha’u’llah was exiled to the desert and condemned to imprisonment in the prison of Akka in Palestine. He taught in the valley of Sharon and on Mount Carmel so that the place would literally see “The Glory of the Lord”, as promised by Isaiah. In Persian “Baha’u’llah signifies the Glory of God or the Glory of the Eternal. He announced:
“THE TIME FORE-ORDAINED UNTO THE PEOPLES AND KINDREDS
OF THE EARTH IS NOW COME. THE PROMISES OF GOD, AS RECORDED IN THE HOLY SCRIPTURES, HAVE ALL BEEN FULFILLED. OUT OF ZION HATH GONE FORTH THE LAW OF GOD, AND JERUSALEM, AND THE HILLS AND LAND THEREOF, ARE FILLED WITH THE GLORY OF HIS REVELATION. HAPPY IS THE MAN THAT PONDERETH IN HIS HEART THAT WHICH HATH
BEEN REVEALED IN THE BOOKS OF GOD”

Mount Carmel is now the Baha’i world Center. Transformed from low to high, in former times it was nothing more than an arid desert, the holy mountain has become a rally point of all the Baha’is of the world. Visitors come there each day to bow down
before the tombs of the Bab and Baha’u’llah. Tour guides of Israel lead visitors to admire the beauty of the gardens and the majestic Baha’i edifices erected on the slopes of Carmel.
“SHARON SHALL BE A FOLD OF FLOCKS, AND THE VALLEY OF
ACHOR A PLACE FOR THE HERDS TO LIE DOWN IN, FOR MY PEOPLE THAT HAVE SOUGHT ME.”

Sharon and Akka (anciently spelled: Achor) are named as places of bounty and blessing for those who seek the Lord in the latter days. It is there that for twenty four years Baha’u’llah was imprisoned. Also it is there where - often by foot from Persia - the
majority of contemporary disciples of Baha’u’llah arrived. It is the prison of Akka where Baha’u’llah succeeded in writing His famous epistles to the sovereigns and rulers of the world of His era, advising them to band together to establish Peace and prophesying the destiny which would be reserved for the Pope and other dynasties of the past century.
“AFTERWARD HE BROUGHT ME TO THE GATE, THE GATE FACING EAST. AND BEHOLD, THE GLORY OF THE GOD OF ISRAEL CAME FROM THE EAST...AND THE EARTH SHONE WITH HIS GLORY...THE GLORY OF THE LORD ENTERED THE TEMPLE BY THE GATE FACING EAST.
“THE SPIRIT LIFTED ME UP, AND BROUGHT ME INTO THE
INNER COURT; AND BEHOLD, THE GLORY OF THE LORD FILLED
THE TEMPLE.”

All prophecies are unanimous in declaring the “The Glory of the Lord” shall come to the Holy Land from the East, manifesting itself in the West. Baha’u’llah
appeared in Iran, which is eastward from Palestine, and He was exiled to the Holy Land. If he had gone there as a free man, people might have said that it was the trick of an impostor in order to conform to the prophecies, but he was led there by force as a
prisoner.
“We have accepted to be abased, O believers in the Unity of God, that ye may be exalted, and have suffered manifold afflictions, that ye might prosper and flourish. He Who hath come to build anew the whole world, behold, how they that have joined
partners with God have forced Him to dwell within the most desolate of cities.”

In a strictly spiritual sense, it is equally just to say that Baha’u’llah arrived “By the Door”, that is to say, by the Bab, His predecessor. In Persian “Bab” signifies “The Door”, “Gate” or “the Entrance to the Kingdom.”
It is curious to note also that the first disciple of the Bab was called, in Persian, “Bab’ul’Bab” – the door to the door - or “the one who leads to the
Entrance.”
In the same sense, Jesus said, “Truly, truly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep.” John 10:7
“Those who do do not come through me, will not attain the kingdom.”
the Baha’is think that at the actual hour those who refuse to pass through the Bab and Baha’u’llah, who turn aside from their teachings, and will not reach the divine reality; they will deny themselves of the knowledge of the benefits reserved for “people of good
will”.
“FOR UNTO US A CHILD IS BORN, UNTO US A SON IS GIVEN; AND THE GOVERNMENT WILL BE UPON HIS SHOULDER, AND HIS NAME WILL BE CALLED "WONDERFUL COUNSELOR, MIGHTY GOD, EVERLASTING FATHER, PRINCE OF PEACE. OF THE INCREASE OF HIS GOVERNMENT AND OF PEACE THERE WILL BE NO END, UPON THE THRONE OF DAVID, AND OVER HIS KINGDOM, TO ESTABLISH IT, AND TO UPHOLD IT WITH JUSTICE AND WITH
RIGHTEOUSNESS FROM THIS TIME FORTH AND FOR EVERMORE. THE ZEAL OF THE LORD OF HOSTS WILL DO THIS.”

This prophecy refers, in part, to Jesus. However Jesus did not speak of the “government”. He only said, “Give unto Caesar that which is Caesars, give unto God that which is God’s.”
Baha’u’llah by contrast, left us more than 200 works written in His own hand, a complete plan of government for world peace. Today these precepts are beginning
to inspire the greatest thinkers and men of state of our epoch -- while it has been nearly a hundred years since His cry from the prison of Akka, no one, except His followers, concedes these ideas are His.
He notably recommended:
A worldwide federation, an international tribunal, an international police, a universal language, the abolition of economic servitude, the regulation of extreme wealth and extreme poverty, the adoption of representational government, the equality of men and women, universal obligatory education etc. all these precepts are from the creative power which characterizes the Word of God.
Jesus explained that He was not the “Prince of Peace”. He says:
“DO NOT THINK THAT I HAVE COME TO BRING PEACE ON EARTH; I HAVE NOT COME TO BRING PEACE, BUT A SWORD.”

Baha’u’llah, by contrast, declared that His specific mission is to establish peace and the Kingdom of God on Earth.
Jesus was never known as “the Father”. He said Himself that He was ”the Son.” Baha’u’llah’s undertaking is to assemble all the religions, races, and nations into a single family. His life, social, and humanitarian teachings demonstrate that He is the Manifestation of the “Father.”
Baha’is believe that Jesus referred to Baha’u’llah when He said:
“FOR AS THE LIGHTNING COMES FROM THE EAST AND SHINES AS FAR AS THE WEST, SO WILL BE THE COMING OF THE SON OF MAN.”

“FOR THE SON OF MAN IS TO COME WITH HIS ANGELS IN THE GLORY OF HIS FATHER, AND THEN HE WILL REPAY EVERY MAN FOR WHAT HE HAS DONE.”

“THE FATHER IS IN ME AND I AM IN THE FATHER."

Often those who do not stop to think, to investigate sincerely the claims of a prophet, and to ask God about it in prayer, say hurriedly of anyone who claims
to fulfill the prophecies of the Holy Books: “Is he the Antichrist?”
Jesus speaking of the Antichrist gives this counsel:
“BELOVED, DO NOT BELIEVE EVERY SPIRIT, BUT TEST THE SPIRITS TO SEE WHETHER THEY ARE OF GOD; FOR MANY FALSE PROPHETS HAVE GONE OUT INTO THE WORLD. BY THIS YOU KNOW THE SPIRIT OF GOD: EVERY SPIRIT WHICH CONFESSES THAT JESUS CHRIST HAS COME IN THE FLESH IS OF GOD, AND EVERY SPIRIT WHICH DOES NOT CONFESS JESUS IS NOT OF GOD. THIS IS THE SPIRIT OF ANTICHRIST...”

Jesus adds:
“BUT WHEN THE COUNSELOR COMES, WHOM I SHALL SEND TO YOU FROM THE FATHER, EVEN THE SPIRIT OF TRUTH, WHO PROCEEDS FROM THE FATHER, HE WILL BEAR WITNESS TO ME; AND YOU ALSO ARE WITNESSES, BECAUSE YOU HAVE BEEN WITH ME FROM THE BEGINNING.”

“HE THAT SPEAKETH OF HIMSELF SEEKETH HIS OWN GLORY: BUT HE THAT SEEKETH HIS GLORY THAT SENT HIM, THE SAME IS TRUE, AND NO UNRIGHTEOUSNESS IS IN HIM. DID NOT MOSES GIVE YOU THE LAW, AND YET NONE OF YOU KEEPETH THE LAW? WHY GO YE ABOUT TO KILL ME?”

CLOTHING BUT INWARDLY ARE RAVENOUS WOLVES. YOU WILL KNOW THEM BY THEIR FRUITS. ARE GRAPES GATHERED FROM THORNS, OR FIGS FROM THISTLES? SO, EVERY SOUND TREE BEARS GOOD FRUIT, BUT THE BAD TREE BEARS EVIL FRUIT. A SOUND TREE CANNOT BEAR EVIL FRUIT, NOR CAN A BAD TREE BEAR GOOD FRUIT. EVERY TREE THAT DOES NOT BEAR GOOD FRUIT IS CUT DOWN AND THROWN INTO THE FIRE. THUS
YOU WILL KNOW THEM BY THEIR FRUITS.”

Even a superficial examination of the Writings of Baha’u’llah will prove that He confirms all the teachings of Christ and that He does “confess Jesus Christ came in the flesh”. No one can become Baha’I without first recognizing Jesus Christ as the Word
embodied, the Son of God.
Thousands of Jewish, Muslim, and Buddhists accepted Christ through the Baha’i teachings, which shed light and exalt the work of all the Prophets of the past.
“Know thou that when the Son of Man yielded up His breath to God, the whole creation wept with a great weeping. By sacrificing Himself, however, a fresh capacity was infused into all created things. Its evidences, as witnessed in all the peoples of the
earth, are now manifest before thee. The deepest wisdom which the sages have uttered, the profoundest learning which any mind hath unfolded, the arts which the ablest hands have produced, the influence exerted by the most potent of rulers, are but manifestations
of the quickening power released by His transcendent, His all-pervasive, and resplendent Spirit.
We testify that when He came into the world, He shed the splendor of His glory upon all created things. Through Him the leper recovered from the leprosy of perversity and ignorance. Through His power, born of Almighty God, the eyes of the blind were opened, and the soul of the sinner sanctified.
Leprosy may be interpreted as any veil that interveneth between man and the recognition of the Lord, his God. Whoso alloweth himself to be shut out from Him is indeed a leper, who shall not be remembered in the kingdom of God, the Mighty, the
All-Praised. We bear witness that through the power of the Word of God every leper was cleansed, every sickness was healed, every human infirmity was banished. He it is Who purified the world. Blessed is the man who, with a face beaming with light, hath turned towards Him.”

Baha’u’llah brought to humanity all the truths: the spiritual and social laws required for a new era. The time has come. He did not speak of “Himself” but He
proceeds from the one who one sent Him to establish the Kingdom of God on Earth. He Glorifies Christ. He announces the things to come and does not look for His own glory. His entire life was a long martyrdom.
“Who can ever believe that this Servant of God hath at any time cherished in His heart a desire for any earthly honor or benefit? The Cause associated with His Name is far above the transitory things of this world. Behold Him, an exile, a victim of tyranny, in this Most Great Prison. His enemies have assailed Him on every side, and will continue to do so till the end of His life. Whatever, therefore, He saith unto you is wholly for the sake of God, that haply the peoples of the earth may cleanse their hearts from the stain of evil desire, may rend its veil asunder, and attain unto the knowledge of the one true God, the most exalted station to which any man can aspire. Their belief or disbelief in My Cause can neither profit nor harm Me. We summon them wholly for the sake of God. He, verily, can afford to dispense with all creatures.”

How will He return?
A good many Christians believe that the Son of Man will return “on the clouds in the sky and in all his glory,” they will see Him in His physical form, the same as when He traveled the streets of Jerusalem, it’s been two thousand years since He suffered and
bled on the cross.
Some even believe that they will be able to see the marks of the nails in His feet and in His hands as well as traces of the cut from the sword in His chest. Certainly a little reflection on the words of Christ suffice to dispel such a conception.
The Jews of the time of Christ had similar ideas on the return of Elijah, but Jesus demonstrated to them their error by explaining that the prophecy according to which, “Elijah must come first” was fulfilled not by the return of the person and the body of the old Elijah, but in the person of John the Baptist, who came “with the spirit and powers of Elijah.”
“AND IF YE WILL RECEIVE IT, THIS IS ELIAS, WHICH WAS FOR TO COME. HE THAT HATH EARS TO HEAR, LET HIM HEAR.”

The “return” of Elijah thus signifies the appearance of another person, born from another mother, but manifesting the same Spirit and the same divine power as Elijah.
The return of Christ will also be accomplished by the appearance of another person born from another mother, but manifesting the same spirit and the same divine

Confirms the “return” of the Holy Spirit to reaffirm, from age to age, the everlasting Covenant of God with humanity.
“IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE TRIBULATION OF THOSE DAY SHALL THE SUN BE DARKENED, AND THE MOON SHALL NOT GIVE HER LIGHT, AND THE STARS SHALL FALL FROM HEAVEN, AND THE POWERS OF THE HEAVENS SHALL BE SHAKEN. AND THEN SHALL APPEAR THE SIGN OF THE SON OF MAN IN HEAVEN, AND THEN SHALL ALL THE TRIBES OF THE EARTH MOURN, THEY SHALL SEE THE SON OF MAN COMING IN THE CLOUDS OF HEAVEN WITH POWER AND GREAT GLORY.“

The Koran reports very similar prophecies:
“WHEN THE SUN SHALL BE FOLDED UP, AND WHEN THE STARS SHALL FALL, AND WHEN THE MOUNTAINS SHALL BE SET IN MOTION,
AND WHEN THE LEAVES OF THE BOOK SHALL BE UNROLLED, AND WHEN THE HEAVEN SHALL BE STRIPPED AWAY, AND WHEN HELL SHALL BE MADE TO BLAZE.”

In His Book of Certitude (Kitab-i-Iqan), Baha’u’llah explains that the prophecies of the sun, moon, the stars, the sky, and the earth are symbolic and should not be understood uniquely in their literal sense.
The sun is the supreme source of light, like Moses was the sun for the Hebrews, Christ was for the Christians, and Muhammad for the Muslims. When the prophets speak of the sun which will be obscured, that signifies that the pure teachings, the light of the
spiritual sun will be obscured by erroneous interpretations, misunderstanding, and prejudice; so that men will be in spiritual darkness. The moon and the stars are sources of less important illumination: the religious heads and masters who must guide and inspire humanity. When it is said that the moon no longer gives light or will be changed to blood and that the stars will fall from the sky, that indicates that the ecclesiastical dignitaries, heads and spiritual leaders will be shamed in their quarrels and battles, that the priests and the ministers of religion will have lost the religious spirit and will occupy themselves with temporal questions, with things earthly and no longer with the divine.
Of course, the sun was obscured. The prophecies of the Old and New Testament, along with those of the other religions, fell into oblivion. The ancient religions and their leaders have lost the respect and the confidence of the masses. Baha’u’llah said of this subject:
“IN ALL THE COUNTRIES, THE FAITH IN GOD IS DYING. ONLY HIS BENEFICIAL REMEDY CAN RESTORE THE FAITH. THE POISON OF ATHEISM GNAWS AT HUMANITY. ONLY THE HEALING ELIXER OF HIS ALL POWERFUL REVELATION CAN DETOXIFY”
The fulfillment of the prophecies in their material sense would be an absurdity.
For example: the moon turning to blood and the stars falling to the earth. The slightest of the visible stars is about a thousand times larger that the earth. If a single one fell to the earth, there would not be enough room for another to fall!
Furthermore, if the images of the Gospel are literally fulfilled, if the angels escend from the sky on a cloud next to Jesus, the son of Mary, who would dare to contradict or still doubt? Those whose vision remained open to the breath of the Spirit can see through these clouds and delight in the “power and the great glory” that Baha’u’llah revealed.
In the universal community of Baha’is, the current problems have been resolved.
The “mountains will be flattened”; there no longer exists differences of race, class, nationality, or belief. The Book of the Revelation of Baha’u’llah is a great work and it was made as a call to all to establish world unity, a first step toward the Kingdom. It is when the sky of religion is clear that the believers of the world will be united by a single
common faith, that the specter of the holy war and the constant menace of religious pressure will disappear, then the great unifying force will be manifested which will make the earth a single country and all of humanity one big family.
The convulsions of this transitional period, the most distressing in the annals of humanity are the inevitable conditions of the approach of this “Age of Ages” and of the end of time, of a battle where humankind will renounce the folly and the disasters undergone throughout all the long centuries of the past. Then it will be able to live tranquilly and to prosper with universal peace definitively established.
The end of times of the nations signals the beginning of the era of universalism, the birth of international cooperation and of great institutions.
“THE GIFT OF GOD TO THIS ENLIGHTENED AGE IS THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE ONENESS OF MANKIND AND OF THE FUNDAMENTAL ONENESS OF RELIGION. WAR SHALL CEASE BETWEEN NATIONS, AND BY THE WILL OF GOD THE MOST GREAT PEACE SHALL COME; THE WORLD WILL BE SEEN AS A NEW WORLD, AND ALL MEN WILL LIVE AS BROTHERS.”

No less exciting is the vision of Isaiah, the greatest of the prophets of Israel, foretelling with an anticipation of more than two thousand five hundred years the destiny which humanity must, at it’s mature age, accomplish.
“AND HE SHALL JUDGE AMONG THE NATIONS, AND SHALL REBUKE MANY PEOPLE: AND THEY SHALL BEAT THEIR SWORDS INTO LOWSHARES, AND THEIR SPEARS INTO PRUNING HOOKS: NATION SHALL NOT LIFT UP SWORD AGAINST NATION, NEITHER SHALL THEY LEARN WAR ANY MORE. AND THERE SHALL COME FORTH A ROD OUT OF THE STEM OF JESSE, AND A BRANCH SHALL GROW OUT OF HIS ROOTS: WITH THE ROD OF HIS MOUTH, AND WITH THE BREATH OF HIS LIPS SHALL HE SLAY THE WICKED. THEY SHALL NOT HURT NOR DESTROY IN ALL MY HOLY MOUNTAIN: FOR THE EARTH SHALL BE FULL OF THE NOWLEDGE
OF THE LORD, AS THE WATERS COVER THE SEA.”

Foreshadowing in turn the glory of the millennium that must know a humanity blooming with joy, the author of Revelations, John, likewise attests:
“AND I SAW A NEW HEAVEN AND A NEW EARTH: FOR THE FIRST HEAVEN AND THE FIRST EARTH WERE PASSED AWAY; AND THERE WAS NO MORE SEA. AND I JOHN SAW THE HOLY CITY, NEW JERUSALEM, COMING DOWN FROM GOD OUT OF HEAVEN, PREPARED AS A BRIDE ADORNED FOR HER HUSBAND. AND I HEARD A GREAT VOICE OUT OF HEAVEN SAYING, BEHOLD, THE TABERNACLE OF GOD IS WITH MEN, AND HE WILL DWELL WITH THEM, AND THEY SHALL BE HIS PEOPLE, AND GOD HIMSELF SHALL BE WITH THEM, AND BE THEIR GOD. With the hands of renunciation draw forth from its life-giving waters, and sprinkle therewith all created things, that they may be cleansed from all man-made limitations and may approach the mighty seat of God, this hallowed and resplendent Spot.
Be not grieved if thou performest it thyself alone. Let God be all-sufficient for thee. Commune intimately with His Spirit, and be thou of the thankful. Proclaim the Cause of thy Lord unto all who are in the heavens and on the earth.”

“Compare these splendid manifestations of spirit animating the vibrant body of the Faith of Baha’u’llah with the cries and agony, the follies and vanities, the bitterness and prejudices, the wickedness and divisions of an ailing and chaotic world. Witness the
fear that torments its leaders and paralyzes the action of its blind and bewildered statesmen. How fierce the hatreds, how false the ambitions, how petty the pursuits, how deep-rooted the suspicions of its peoples! How disquieting the lawlessness, the corruption, the unbelief that are eating into the vitals of a tottering civilization!
Might not this process of steady deterioration which is insidiously invading so many departments of human activity and thought be regarded as a necessary accompaniment to the rise of this almighty Arm of Baha'u'llah? Might we not look upon the momentous happenings which, in the course of the past twenty years, have so deeply agitated every continent of the earth, as ominous signs simultaneously proclaiming the
agonies of a disintegrating civilization and birth pangs of that World Order - this Ark of human salvation - that must needs arise upon its ruins?
The catastrophic fall of mighty monarchies and empires in the European continent, allusions to some of which may be found in the prophecies of Baha’u’llah; the decline that has set in, and is still continuing, in the fortunes of the Shi’ih hierarchy in His own native land; the fall of the Qajar dynasty, the traditional enemy of His faith; the
overthrow of the Sultanate and the Caliphate, the sustaining pillars of Sunni Islam, to which the destruction of Jerusalem in the latter part of the first century of the Christian era offers a striking parallel; the wave of secularization which is invading the Mohammedan ecclesiastical institutions in Egypt and sapping the loyalty of its staunchest supporters; the humiliating blows that have afflicted some of the most powerful Churches of Christendom in Russia, in Western Europe and Central America; the dissemination
of those subversive doctrines that are undermining the foundations and overthrowing the structure of seemingly impregnable strongholds in the political and social spheres of human activity; the signs of an impending catastrophe, strangely reminiscent of the
Fall of the Roman Empire in the West, which threatens to engulf the whole structure of present-day civilization - all witness to the tumult which the birth of this mighty Organ of the Religion of Baha’u’llah has cast into the world - a tumult which will grow in scope and in intensity as the implications of this constantly evolving Scheme are more fully understood and its ramifications more widely extended over the surface of the globe.
A word more in conclusion. The rise and establishment of this Administrative Order - the shell that shields and enshrines so precious a gem - constitutes the hall-mark of this second and formative age of the Baha’i era. It will come to be regarded, as it recedes farther and farther from our eyes, as the chief agency empowered to usher in the concluding phase, the consummation of this glorious Dispensation.
Let no one, while this System is still in its infancy, misconceive its character, belittle its significance or misrepresent its purpose. The bedrock on which this Administrative Order is founded is God’s immutable Purpose for mankind in this day...
...The central, the underlying aim which animates it is the establishment of the New World Order as adumbrated by Baha’u’llah. The method it employs, the standard it inculcates, incline it to neither East nor West, neither Jew nor Gentile, neither rich nor poor, neither white nor colored. Its watchword is the unification of the human race; its standard the “Most Great Peace”; its consummation the advent of that golden millennium - the Day when the kingdoms of this world shall have become the Kingdom of God Himself, the Kingdom of Baha’u’llah.”

In the name of the Lord, the Lord of great glory.
Say, O followers of the Son [Jesus]! Have ye shut out yourselves from Me by reason of My Name? Wherefore ponder ye not in your hearts? Day and night ye have
been calling upon your Lord, the Omnipotent, but when He came from the heaven of eternity in His great glory, ye turned aside from Him and remained sunk in heedlessness.
Consider those who rejected the Spirit [Jesus] when He came unto them with manifest dominion. How numerous the Pharisees who had secluded themselves in
synagogues in His name, lamenting over their separation from Him, and yet when the portals of reunion were flung open and the divine Luminary shone resplendent from the Dayspring of Beauty, they disbelieved in God, the Exalted, the Mighty. They failed to attain His presence, notwithstanding that His advent had been promised them in the Book of Isaiah as well as in the Books of the Prophets and the Messengers. No one from among them turned his face towards the Dayspring of divine bounty except such as were destitute of any power amongst men. And yet, today, every man endowed with power and invested with sovereignty prideth himself on His Name. Moreover, call thou to mind the one who sentenced Jesus to death. He was the most learned of his age in his own country, whilst he who was only a fisherman believed in Him. Take good heed and be of them that observe the warning.
Consider likewise, how numerous at this time are the monks who have secluded themselves in their churches, calling upon the Spirit, but when He appeared through
the power of Truth, they failed to draw nigh unto Him and are numbered with those that have gone far astray. Happy are they that have abandoned them and set their
faces towards Him Who is the Desire of all that are in the heavens and all that are on the earth.
They read the Evangel and yet refuse to acknowledge the All-Glorious Lord, notwithstanding that He hath come through the potency of His exalted, His mighty
and gracious dominion. We, verily, have come for your sakes, and have borne the misfortunes of the world for your salvation. Flee ye the One Who hath sacrificed His life that ye may be quickened? Fear God, O followers of the Spirit, and walk not in the footsteps of every divine that hath gone far astray...
Open the doors of your hearts. He Who is the Spirit verily standeth before them. Wherefore keep ye afar from Him Who hath purposed to draw you nigh unto a
Resplendent Spot?...
Say: We, in truth, have opened unto you the gates of the Kingdom. Will ye bar the doors of your houses in My face? This indeed is naught but a grievous error. He, verily, hath again come down from heaven, even as He came down from it the first time.
Say, Lo! The Father is come, and that which ye were promised in the Kingdom is fulfilled!
This is the Word which the Son concealed, when to those around Him He said: 'Ye cannot bear it now.' And when the appointed time was fulfilled and the Hour had
struck, the Word shone forth above the horizon of the Will of God.
Beware, O followers of the Son, that ye cast it not behind your backs. Take ye fast hold of it. Better is this for you than all that ye possess...
The Hour which We had concealed from the knowledge of the peoples of the earth and of the favoured angels hath come to pass...
Say, strive ye to attain that which ye have been promised in the Books of God, and walk not in the way of the ignorant.
My body hath endured imprisonment that ye may be released from the bondage of self. Set your faces then towards His countenance and follow not the footsteps of every hostile oppressor. Verily, He hath consented to be sorely abased that ye may attain unto glory, and yet, ye are disporting yourselves in the vale of heedlessness. He, in truth, liveth in the most desolate of abodes for your sakes, whilst ye dwell in your palaces.
Say, did ye not hearken to the Voice of the Crier, calling aloud in the wilderness of the Bayán, bearing unto you the glad-tidings of the coming of your Lord, the All-Merciful? Lo! He is come in the sheltering shadow of Testimony, invested with conclusive proof and evidence...
Blessed is the man who turneth towards Him, and woe betide such as deny or doubt Him.
Proclaim then unto all mankind the glad-tidings of this mighty, this glorious Revelation. Verily, He Who is the Spirit of Truth is come to guide you unto all truth. He speaketh not as prompted by His own self, but as bidden by Him Who is the All-Knowing, the All-Wise...
Purge ye your ears and set your hearts towards Him that ye may hearken to the most wondrous Call which hath been raised from Sinai, the habitation of your Lord, the Most Glorious...
O concourse of priests! Leave the bells, and come forth, then, from your churches. It behoveth you, in this day, to proclaim aloud the Most Great Name among the nations. Prefer ye to be silent, whilst every stone and every tree shouteth aloud: 'The Lord is come
in His great glory!'? Well is it with the man who hasteneth unto Him...
O concourse of bishops! Ye are the stars of the heaven of My knowledge. My mercy desireth not that ye should fall upon the earth. My justice, however, declareth: 'This is that which the Son hath decreed.' And whatsoever hath proceeded out of His blameless, His truth-speaking, trustworthy mouth, can never be altered.
The body of the Loved One yearneth for the cross, and His head is eager for the spear, in the path of the All-Merciful...Blessed is the man that hath set his face towards God, the Lord of the Day of Reckoning.
O concourse of monks! If ye choose to follow Me, I will make you heirs of My Kingdom; and if ye transgress against Me, I will, in My long-suffering, endure it patiently, and I, verily, am the Ever-Forgiving, the All-Merciful...
Let not the things they have perpetrated grieve thee. Truly they are even as dead, and not living. Leave them unto the dead, then turn thy face towards Him Who is the Life-Giver of the world...
Say: Blessed the slumberer who is awakened by My Breeze. Blessed the lifeless one who is quickened through My reviving breaths...Blessed the abased one who layeth fast hold on the cord of My glory; and the needy one who entereth beneath the shadow of the Tabernacle of My wealth...Blessed the soul that hath been raised to life through My quickening breath and hath gained admittance into My heavenly Kingdom...Blessed the ear that hath heard and the tongue that hath borne witness and the eye that hath seen and recognized the Lord Himself !...
Blessed is the man who hath detached himself from all else but Me...acquainted himself with My Cause, apprehended that which I concealed within the treasury of My Words...Verily, he is of Me. Upon him rest My mercy, My loving-kindness, My bounty and My glory. “
“Verily I say, this is the Day in which mankind can behold the Face, and hear the Voice, of the Promised One. The Call of God hath been raised, and the light of His countenance hath been lifted up upon men. It behoveth every man to blot out the trace of every idle word from the tablet of his heart and to gaze, with an open and unbiased mind, on the signs of His Revelation, the proofs of His Mission, and the tokens of His glory.
Great indeed is this Day! The allusions made to it in all the sacred Scriptures as the Day of God attest its greatness. The soul of every Prophet of God, of every Divine Messenger, hath thirsted for this wondrous Day. All the divers kindreds of the earth
have, likewise, yearned to attain it. No sooner, however, had the Day Star of his Revelation manifested itself in the heaven of God’s Will, than all, except those whom the Almighty was pleased to guide, were found dumbfounded and heedless.
